>K-Dense Web Updates

Since last Friday, we’ve made it easier to work with scientific files, follow long research sessions, and inspect results without leaving your project:

Open more scientific files in place. Rich previews now cover 92 formats, including 3D structures, chemical files, spectra, sequencing data, medical images, research datasets, and notebooks. We also added support for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files.
Stay in the flow. Dictate requests with speech-to-text, edit text and code files directly, and open links from K-Dense answers with one click.
Run demanding work with more confidence. Long, complex sessions now start more reliably. If an analysis cannot begin, K-Dense stops before creating a report from incomplete work.
Review results without interruptions. Chat no longer pulls you away from an earlier result while new work arrives, progress cards stay open while the agent works, and refreshed file previews show the latest version.
Navigate projects more smoothly. We improved the project organization view and fixed common dead ends around uploads, folders, file dates, and compressed medical-imaging and large spectrum files.

>What’s New in Open Source

This week’s open-source releases expand what scientists can do on their own computers while making research outputs easier to inspect and trust.

Scientific Agent Skills

Earlier insight into animal welfare. A new skill combines body weight, temperature, clinical scores, activity, biomarkers, and other measures into one daily severity picture, then helps flag animals that may be approaching a humane endpoint. It supports earlier attention and 3Rs refinement without replacing study protocols or veterinary judgment.
Safer, broader citation work. The updated workflow preserves complex scientific titles, catches duplicate papers more reliably, searches more than 250 million works through OpenAlex, and leaves your original reference file untouched unless you ask it to make changes.
Clearer figure review. Scientific infographic creation now provides better quality feedback before a visual is finalized.

K-Dense BYOK v0.9.7

Think of K-Dense BYOK as Claude Science, but better for researchers who want control: it is open source, runs on your desktop, works with the models and subscriptions you choose, and keeps your project files in your own workspace.

More choice in AI models. You can now use NVIDIA-hosted models directly with NVIDIA API credits, alongside your existing subscriptions, pay-as-you-go providers, and free local models.
Faster access to new options. The model menu includes more recently released choices, and you can add another NVIDIA model by name when it is not yet in the built-in list.
A more transparent research toolkit. Installed skills now show where they came from and update more reliably, making it easier to understand and maintain the capabilities available to your desktop co-scientist.

>Hugging Face MecCog Agentic Challenge

This week, we sent K-Dense to participate in Hugging Face’s MecCog agent collaboration to map Alzheimer’s research. So far, K-Dense has consistently produced more novel sources, and at a faster rate, than the other agents entered.
