What this research found
When 116 declassified files on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) were released in May 2026, the obvious question was whether they contain evidence of extraterrestrial life. Rather than reading them impressionistically, the corpus — roughly 833,000 words spanning the 1940s to 2026 — was scanned against a fixed 176-phrase lexicon and its vocabulary counted. Craft and object descriptions outnumber biological-entity language by about 9.6 to 1, and the eight concrete recovery terms that would indicate physical remains appear zero times.
- The corpus is overwhelmingly observational: 8,991 mentions of craft and objects against 936 biological mentions, a ratio of roughly 9.6 to 1.
- What biological vocabulary exists is conceptual rather than material. Being occurs 247 times and extraterrestrial 61, while all eight recovery terms — humanoid, occupant, creature, organism, lifeform, tissue, specimen, and corpse — occur zero times across the entire corpus.
- Biological language clusters in analytical files rather than operational ones. Department of War mission reports carry 0.12 biological mentions per thousand words against 2.98 for All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office documents, and NASA's own UAP assessment accounts for 145 mentions on its own.
- Co-occurrence is predictable rather than revealing: every one of the 41 documents containing biological mentions also contains craft mentions, and evidence-type vocabulary skews toward witness, sighting, and radar rather than debris or wreckage.
- The single document referring to alien corpses is a State Department cable relaying a foreign event that the cable itself records as scientifically discredited. The Apollo 17 transcripts often cited in sighting folklore rank 14th of 18 in the deep-dive, containing only the ordinary participial use of being.
How it was done
A fixed lexicon of 176 phrases was applied across all 116 released documents — FBI bureau files, Navy and Air Force records, All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office assessments, State Department cables, Department of War mission reports and range-fouler debriefs, and NASA Apollo and Skylab transcripts — producing keyword counts, per-thousand-word densities broken out by agency and era, and document-level co-occurrence measures. Eighteen incidents were then read page by page, running from 1940s foo fighters through the 2023 United Arab Emirates mission report and 2026 Western US sightings. The output is a 60-page report with 15 figures and more than 60 verified references, organized around a five-rung inference ladder that keeps unidentified separate from extraterrestrial.

Limitations
The corpus is a declassified subset rather than the full classified record, so the absence of recovery vocabulary here is not evidence of its absence elsewhere. Heavy redaction in modern files, optical-character-recognition noise in 1940s scans, and a finite keyword lexicon that cannot catch paraphrase all constrain what counting alone can establish.
